By train York station is on the East Coast Mainline railway. Rail services run to London every half hour and take under two hours. There are also direct trains to many of the country’s other main cities. Trains to Leeds run every 20 minutes and services back to York run throughout the night, putting Leeds nightlife within easy reach. By coach You can travel to York direct by coach from all over the UK. The National Express website gives details of fares and timetables. The Megabus is a low cost alternative, offering intercity bus travel from Leeds to a number of cities throughout the country.
By air York is situated 45 minutes' drive from Leeds and Bradford airport. Leeds and Bradford airport offers chartered and scheduled, domestic and international flights, including a regular 50 minute shuttle service to Heathrow airport. The low cost airlines jet2 and Ryanair also operate from Leeds and Bradford, providing value flights to a range of UK and European destinations.
Manchester International airport is the UK’s third largest airport and offers direct flights to over 180 destinations worldwide. The airport is only two hours' drive from York. A train also operates direct from York to the airport, departing every half hour during the day, with less frequent trains throughout the night, and taking under two hours.
By sea York is a one hour drive from the P&O Sea Ferries terminal at Kingston-upon-Hull. From here there are daily sailings to Holland and Belgium.
