Halls of Residence With the exception of York College, all the institutions in York offer accommodation to first year students who request it. Most halls of residence are made up of blocks of flats or study bedrooms with shared bathrooms, meeting areas and kitchens. These rooms are typically small and basic and may or may not have sinks or en-suite facilities. Some halls are catered while others are self-catered, so this is another factor you may need to consider. Halls of residence are usually less expensive than private accommodation and the price you pay will include your amenities such as heating, lighting and water. Typically you will only need to pay for the time you spend in this accommodation, i.e. about 30 weeks of the year. With so many students living together, most away from home for the first time, halls of residence tend to have a lively atmosphere. The links give more details about the halls of residence at the different York institutions.
