Communal Living Students - communal living
For some students communal living is one of the most rewarding experiences associated with being a student, while for others it is one of the most miserable. The students who enjoy this experience are those who respect and are respected by their fellow housemates.

The following tips are a few simple ways in which you can show respect to other residents:

- Don’t play loud music late at night

- Take care not to cause unnecessary noise or disturbance when leaving your room or property late at night – others may be asleep

- Clear up when you have finished cooking and eating

- Check with housemates before inviting friends around for dinner.

Students are also more likely to enjoy communal living if household duties and responsibilities are taken seriously by all housemates and not left to a few individuals. The payment of bills and cleaning of communal areas frequently lead to fall outs between tenants. In order to prevent any problems with bills it’s advisable that all housemates’ details are given to utility companies, instead of just one person’s. This ensures that everybody is responsible for the payment of the bill and if there’s a problem with a late payment everyone will be held accountable.

As far as the cleaning of communal areas is concerned, you may decide to draw up a cleaning rota with sanctions for housemates who don’t complete their chores in the specified time.
