Focus on: Progression

HIgher Education Progression Forum

One of Higher York’s key objectives is to support potential learners to understand the local higher education (HE) offer and how to progress into and through it. With this in mind, Higher York has set up a new Forum around HE progression. The Forum enables colleagues from local universities, Further Education (FE) colleges, schools, the wider guidance community, the local authorities and other key strategic stakeholders (including NYBEP and Learning City York) to share information on the latest developments around progression to HE.

The first meeting of the Forum took place at the end of November and included discussions around supporting students with disabilities, widening participation and outreach activities and the new student finance arrangements.

We hope that through this Forum partners will be able to exchange good practice around activities that raise the aspirations of young people, taking forward the good work of Aimhigher. Local schools will also benefit from this direct link with admissions and widening participation colleagues at the FE and HE institutions.

The Forum is open to any interested colleagues that would like to attend. Please contact n.browne@higheryork.org.uk to receive information about future meetings.

Further work reviewing local progression pathways will be taken forward through curriculum group meetings in Business & Management, Arts, and Environment, involving all college and university partners. To receive any information about this work please contact c.newhouse@higheryork.org
