From Windows to Awards

The Foundation Degree in Garden Design at Craven College attracts a mixture of students, many looking for a complete career change and Ben Howarth was no exception. Ben was a window cleaner before choosing to start something totally new in his life. Ben successfully completed the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Garden Design at the college and loved it so much that he decided to continue on to the FdA in Garden Design.
Ben has thoroughly enjoyed the course and was part of last year’s winning team at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show winning a Premier Award for the best garden in show. The garden design competition was open to professional designers as well as colleges making the award all the more impressive.
Ben’s change in career has truly paid off as he is now self-employed as a gardener and garden designer. Ben says:
‘The course is better than I ever imagined. The teachers are truly inspiring. Although it’s hard work it’s already proving invaluable in my career choice.’
