Innovative Activity award success for 'York students get money-smarter' event
The success of the 'York students get money-smarter' event, organised by Higher York partners earlier in the year, has been recognised at the National Association of Student Money Advisors Awards.
Representatives from the student funding advice teams at the University of York and York St John attended the ceremony, where they were presented with the Innovative Activity Award, as well as being runners up in the Best Partnership Award.
The event was held to mark the start of National Student Money Week, and to increase awareness of the breadth of financial advice and support available to students in York. Representatives from York’s universities and colleges, local banks and other financial organisations attended the event.
Following a welcome given by the Lord Mayor of York, guests heard about some of the initiatives aimed at making students 'money-smart’, and had the opportunity to meet key contacts in the city involved in providing student financial support.
The event was organised in collaboration with Blackbullion, who are working with York's universities to provide financial education training for their students.
Claire Newhouse, Higher York Manager said: "It's great that the universities and colleges are working together to help educate students about how to budget and look after their money".
