This stand alone module builds on practitioners’ existing general therapeutic skills. A variety of teaching methods are used including role play, small group work, modelling and didactic teaching. These methods are used to explore and instil specific skills in CBT. The main focus of this module is on screening for suitability; assessment strategies; developing a formulation and socialising patients to the rationale and style of delivery of key CBT treatment interventions. The importance of measurement and evaluation is stressed in the context of an active and collaborative therapeutic relationship. Emphasis is placed on ways of socialising the client to the CBT model in a patient centred and culturally sensitive manner.
